Dr. Don Ryan graduated with an honours degree from Cork Dental School in 1989 and spent a year in dental practice in the UK before taking the primary fellowship exams at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. After this he spent several years in residential hospital positions in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Canterbury, Ashford and Cambridge before obtaining his full fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr. Ryan then spent a further 3 years on a specialist orthodontic training program based at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, The West Norwich Hospital and Guy’s Dental School in London.
Having completed his specialist training, Dr. Ryan returned to Ireland and opened specialist orthodontic clinics in Waterford, Wexford and Gorey. For many years he worked at these clinics where the emphasis was always on excellence and he also provided oral surgery services for his orthodontic patients at Ely House Hospital in Wexford. Dr Ryan now concentrates all his efforts on his Wexford clinic where he works full time, while other specialist colleagues have taken over and run the clinics which he started in both Waterford and Gorey. Dr. Ryan held the office of President of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland in 2009, having previously served the society as scientific secretary for 2 years. He was also president and secretary of both the South Eastern and the Eastern branches of the Irish Dental Association.
Dr. Ryan has lectured and published on a variety orthodontic topics over the past 15 years.
He lives near Wexford town with his wife Fiona. They have 3 children, all in their 20’s now.
