We recently completed a periodic review of our x-ray safety procedures at Wexford Orthodontics and we are glad to report that no changes to our existing protocols are required.
As you might expect all x-ray facilities in the country are very strictly regulated by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland. Regular inspections of the equipment and facilities are carried out and an up to date licence must be displayed.
The amount of radiation received from a dental x-ray is very small and equivalent to only 1 day of the background radiation that we are all constantly exposed to. Although this is 10,000 times less than the minimum exposure thought to be dangerous, we have a duty to constantly review it so that our patients and staff are not receiving any more than is necessary.
