We recently completed a periodic internal review of our sterilisation procedures and protocols at Wexford Orthodontics. As a result of this we made a few changes which included upgrading one of the sterilisers that we use in Wexford and changing the way that we store instruments after they been cleaned and sterilised.
The risk of cross infection in orthodontics is extremely low but to eliminate even the slightest risk, full surgical cross infection and sterilisation protocols are rigidly applied in orthodontics as they are in all branches of dentistry.
All of our non disposable instruments are first washed and thoroughly cleaned in a separate area before being sterilised.
After sterilisation they are transferred to a clean preparation area where new instrument trays are prepared for patients about to be seen.
Every stage of the process is periodically scrutinised to make sure that we are complying with all the latest recommendations and regulations and that the very highest standards are in place at Wexford Orthodontics.
